PIXELS VS PATHS
Raster (or bitmapped) images are made up of individual pixels. For example, a digital photo would be considered a raster image because it is comprised of thousands of dots, or pixels.
Vector images are made up of lines and curves called ‘paths.’ These paths are mathematically calculated rather than made up of pixels.
Vector Graphics are ideal for printing because unlike Raster Graphics, Vector Graphics can be scaled to any size without losing resolution. Raster Graphics that are scaled to a size that is larger than it’s original will give you bad, pixelated results.
SHATTER LABELS REQUIRES VECTOR GRAPHIC FILES IN ORDER TO PRINT YOUR MERCHANDISE
Vector Graphics are created with a program like Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw, NOT Adobe Photoshop. Vector Graphics files and with a .ai or .eps file extension.
Raster Graphics are made up of squares called pixels, which are arranged in a grid to create an image. Raster Graphics cannot be up-scaled, so they are NOT ideal for printing. Shatter Labels DOES NOT accept Raster Graphics for printing.
Vector Graphics are made up of paths and curves, meaning they can be scaled up to sizes as large as you want them without losing resolution. Shatter Labels ONLY accepts Vector Graphics for printing.
WARNING: IT IS POSSIBLE TO SAVE RASTER GRAPHICS WITHIN VECTOR PROGRAMS. THIS DOES NOT CONVERT THESE RASTER GRAPHICS INTO VECTOR PATHS. THESE DESIGNS MUST BE RECREATED FROM SCRATCH IN A PROGRAM LIKE ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR OR COREL DRAW.
